عنوان انگلیسی Identification of A Gene Set Associated with Colorectal Cancer in Microarray Data Using The Entropy Method
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Objective: Application of Shannon's Entropy in determination of colorectal cancer genes in microarray data. Materials and methods: In this study, 18 colorectal carcinoma and paired normal tissue samples were analyzed. First, the fold-change of genes was determined, second using entropy theory an effective gene set was identified, and then these genes categorized into homogenous clusters. Results: In this study, 36 tissue sample were studied. Using entropy theory a set of 29 genes were selected among 3128 genes that had fold-change more than one, which had the most information on colorectal cancer. The results of the study compared with Notterman's study show that both studies agree on the discovery of 12 genes associated with colorectal cancer. Note that our study identified 17 genes associated with colorectal cancer that the Nottreman et al was not able to identify them. Conclusion: This study identified several genes associated with colon cancer using Entropy method that those did not detected by custom methods. Therefore, we suggest Entropy theory to identify genes associated with cancers in microarray data set.
