عنوان انگلیسی Comparison of Prophylactic and Post Operation Effects of Zingiber Officinale and Ibuprofen on Periodontal Flap Surgery Pain
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Background: Pain after periodontal flap surgery is very common and its control is very important during treatment. Although Ibuprofen is the most common used drug for the pain control in dentistry, it has its own side effects. Purpose: This study was aimed to compare the prophylactic and post operation effect of the ginger Zingiber Officinale (Zintoma) and Ibuprofen on the pain after surgical treatment of periodontal flap. Materials and Method: Participants were 46 patients referred to the dental clinic at Guilan University of Medical Sciences in Rasht, Iran. They were assigned into three groups; the first group received placebo, the second group received Ibuprofen and the third group received Zintoma. The pain was measured by using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Verbal Rating Scale (VRS) at different times. Collected data were analyzed in SPSS v.21 software. The significance level was set as p< 0.05. Results: Twelve hours after surgery, the most of patients in Ibuprofen (n=39) and Zintoma groups (n=36), reported no pain, whilein placebo group (n=25), less pain was reported. Statistical analysis showed that the Zintoma had significantly more effect on the pain redcution. Conclusion: The Zintoma had almost the same effect as Ibuprofen on reducing the pain . With less side effects, it is better to be used as an analgesic drug in controlling the pain after periodontal flap surgery.
