چکیده فارسی مقاله هدف از طراحی محیط، تنها بر محور بیان­های زیبایی شناسانه قرار نمی­گیرد بلکه طراحان معمولاً از طریق ادراک موضوع طراحی، تشخیص مسائل و ارائه راه حل­ها، طرحی را به نتیجه می­رسانند که نه تنها به نیازهای کیفی کاربران پاسخ می­گوید بلکه محیطی زیبا نیز خلق می­­نمایند. بنابراین هدف طراحی، خلق محیطی با اجزایی نظیر‌ قرارگاههای رفتاری و مبلمانهایی است که همه آن­ها متناسب با نیازهای رفتاری، انتظارات، توقعات و نیازهای کیفی کاربران متناسب قرار می­گیرند. این بدان معناست که محصول چنین تلاشی باید بر اساس شناخت ویژگی کاربران یعنی" فرهنگ" آنان باشد، تا بتواند به نیاز آنان پاسخ گوید. مردم و رفتارهای آنان بخشی از سیستم محیط­های مسکونی می­باشند، به طوری که رفتار و محیط را نمی­توان از یکدیگر جدا فرض نمود. رفتارهای انسانی همواره در بستر محیط شکل می­گیرند و نمی­توان بدون در نظر داشتن تأثیر محیط، شرایط رفتاری را مورد تجزیه و تحلیل و ارزیابی قرار داد. بنابراین طراحی باید با تکیه بر دانش چگونگی تعامل انسان با محیط به نتیجه برسد. در حالیکه این دانش هیچ گاه کامل و بدون نقص نیست، طراحان نیز نباید بر اساس نقطه نظرهای شخصی عمل نمایند. اما تصمیمات طراحی می­تواند در هر مقطع زمانی بر اساس اطلاعاتی که از طریق تحقیق به­دست می آیند، اتخاذ شود. فرهنگ یک مفهوم و ساختار نظری است، از سوی دیگر یک ویژگی برای بسیاری از موضوعات نظیر تفکر انسان، جهان بینی، دیدگاه، رفتار و چگونگی انجام آن می­باشد، معمولاً طراحان همواره بر اهمیت فرهنگ در محیط های مصنوع تأکید بسیار دارند، اما هیچ کدام در مورد چیستی آن یا چگونگی تأثیر فرهنگ بر محیط­های انسانی به طور واضح سخن نگفته­اند، زیرا طبیعت مفهوم فرهنگ خیلی روشن نشده و مورد تجزیه و تحلیل قرار نگرفته است. چنانچه وجوه مختلف و حدود آن روشن گردد، می­توان از مفهوم فرهنگ و وجوه آن در طراحی محیطی به نحوه قابل درکی استفاده نمود.

چکیده انگلیسی مقاله The purpose of environmental design practice is not only to provide an artistic medium to express themself artistically. Best design solutions and satisfactory design approaches arise from identification of problems and objective orientation toward design issues. This necessitates the identification of users’ needs and concerns in the beginning of the design process, in order to produce desirable and efficient solutions, although it may not always interest designers. Identification of various aspects of design problems includes getting access to the proper knowledge regarding to environment and its constituent parts such as suitable settings and furnishings as well as identification of the activities. This implies that the product of designing buildings and any other physical environments must be based on understanding the human nature and characteristics which means that design need to respond to culture. 3 In fact no design solution can claim perfection, it can only achievable when it is based on the best available information and data at any given moment in time Therefore culture as representative of people - environment interaction, should be regarded as the main area of investigations and it is the subject of change and transformation according to the advances in human knowledge. Design must consider culture and information that leads design process towards achieving appropriate human - environment relationship. This requires to give priority to a comprehensive research, based on the state of the art of related studied, and the most up- to- date available knowledge, rather than to the designer’s personal preferences. Their intuition might form hypotheses which is important for design disciplines to learn.In order to examine the success of a design solution, it is critical for designers to set the goal and objectives in advance to any exploration of ideas and artistic endeavors.
