چکیده انگلیسی مقاله The personality of Ima m `Ali (A.S.) and his thoughts are among the issues which have always been of interest to Sunni scholars, who have mostly written in this respect honorably in history books. In the present paper, however, the writer has appraised Ibn Khaldu n's views as a Sunni scholar concerning Ima m `Ali (A.S.) and the issue of Caliphate. He believes that Ibn Khaldu n has not been just and truthful in this respect, which has eventually given way to his being suspected as having written his Muqaddama in defense of the Umayyad and the Abbasids against the Shi`a, and that this accusation has rendered as dubious the scholarly value of his views.
