Maternal and paternal exposure to mercury chloride during progenesis in rats affects the CNS parameters of adult offspring
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله
Background: The consequences of exposure to mercury and its compounds on the reproductive potential and health of offspring are a pressing problem of the global scientific community. The purpose of the study was to study the effect of mercuric chloride intoxication in the parent generation on the postnatal development, behavior, and neuromuscular conductivity of their adult offspring.
Methods: The experiment was conducted on Wistar rats of both sexes, which were subcutaneously injected with a solution of mercuric chloride (HgCl2) at a rate of 0.5 mg/kg (mercury) daily before mating for 6 weeks. Postnatal mortality, body weight, righting reflex on the surface and motor activity of the newborn offspring were assessed. The examination of the adult offspring included the open field test, the resident-intruder test, the rotarod test, the development of the food-procuring reflex, and an electroneuromyographic study.
Results: The results of the survey showed that exposure to mercury chloride on rats of both sexes before mating causes a decrease in the level of motor activity and a violation of impulse conduction in the neuromuscular apparatus of the hind limbs in their offspring. In addition, maternal exposure to mercury chloride before mating leads to a violation of the cognitive abilities of adult offspring, and paternal exposure to a decrease in aggressiveness.
Conclusion: The data obtained substantiate the need for further study of the long-term effects of mercury intoxication on generations, as well as the mechanism of transmission of such a "chemical load" from generation to generation.
