Abstract
Introduction: Students’ sense of belonging is known to be strongly associated with a successful life at university. However, there is little known about the determinants of studentschr('39') sense of belonging to the university. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of autonomy, competence, relatedness and individual interest in predicting  studentschr('39') belonging to the university. 
Methods: The design of this study was descriptive-correlational. The statistical population of this study consisted of all students of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad in the academic year of 2019-2020. For this purpose, 450 students were selected using multi-stage random sampling method. Data collection was done through The Basic Needs Satisfaction in General Scale, Individual Interest, and Belonging to University Scale. In order to analyze the data, SPSS 24 software and Pearson correlation methods and multiple regressions were used.
Results: The results showed that there are Reciprocal and significant correlations between competency, autonomy, relatedness, individual interest and belonging to university. In addition, the results of multiple regression analysis showed that, with the exception of individual interest, the variables of competence, autonomy, and relatedness were able to significantly predict studentschr('39') sense of belonging to the university.
Conclusions: The research findings emphasize the important role of satisfying basic psychological needs in the experience of studentschr('39') sense of belonging to the university and can be a basis for effective interventions in the context of higher education.
