Reactive Blue B3R Dye Removal by Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) Bones: Mechanism and Kinetics

In this study, the removal of Reactive blue B3R textile dyestuff by adsorption method was studied in a batch adsorption system. Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fish bones were used as adsorbent material and optimum conditions were determined by using different parameters of time, temperature, pH, mixing speed, adsorbent amount, and dyestuff concentration. The experimental data obtained were applied to the Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin isotherms and it was seen that the data were more suitable for the Langmuir isotherm. For the pre- and post-adsorption characterization of the adsorbent used in dye adsorption, SEM, FT-IR, and BET analyses were performed and the findings were compared. The effect of the inlet dye concentration on the adsorption efficiency was measured by experimental data obtained under different temperature conditions. The highest removal efficiency was obtained 88% at 200 rpm mixing speed, pH 2, 3 g/L adsorbent concentration, 30 ºC temperature, and 25 mg/L initial concentration conditions. This value was observed as 65% for the initial concentration of 200 mg/L.
The process of B3R adsorption using trout bones was evaluated with pseudo-first and pseudo-second-order kinetic models. Kinetic modeling results indicate that the pseudo-second-order kinetic model gives more favorable results (R
