عنوان انگلیسی Social engagement and sense of loneliness among community-dwelling older adults in Pekanbaru, Indonesia: A cross sectional study
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Purpose: This study aimed to explore the correlation between social engagement and loneliness among older adults residing in the community.
Methods: The study utilized a cross-sectional methodology, employing multistage clustered sampling combined with consecutive technique to enroll 257 participants from the Payung Sekaki sub-district. Between January and February 2022, various assessment tools, including sociodemographic questionnaire, social engagement questionnaire, and loneliness questionnaire, were administered by the researchers. Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, chi-square analysis, and logistic regression analysis.
Findings: The results indicated significant associations between loneliness and variables including age, gender, education, marital status, and social engagement among older individuals. Furthermore, the study highlighted the substantial influence of social networks among older adults, surpassing factors such as age, education, marital status, social activities, and social relationships.
Conclusion: The study highlights the pivotal role of social networks in reducing loneliness among older adults. Promoting healthy aging and fostering strong social connections are key in preventing loneliness in this demographic. Additionally, various factors contribute to loneliness, reflecting its complexity among older individuals.
