Preparation, Characterization and Evaluation of the Efficacy of Layered Zinc Hydroxides (LZH), Chitosan and LZH-Chitosan in the Transport and Delivery of Triamcinolone (TAC) as Drug Delivery Carriers

In this paper, the preparation, characterization and drug delivery investigation of intercalated Layer Zinc Hydroxide (LZH), Chitosan and LZH/chitosan nano-composite are described. Triamcinolone (TAC) was effectively intercalated into Layered Zinc Hydroxide (LZH) via ion exchange methods. Subsequently, the nanohybrid's biopolymer was synthesized using chitosan. The nanocomposites produced in four distinct ratios exhibited a basal spacing of 19.27, 18.13, 19.33,11. 64A°.Successful loading of TAC between layered zinc hydroxide was showed by increasing the gallery height of LZH. The newly formed compounds were analyzed using various spectroscopic techniques such as Powder X-Ray Diffraction (PXRD), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), field-emission scanning electron Microscopy (FESEM), Fourier Transform InfraRed (FT-IR), spectroscopy ThermoGravimetric Analysis (TGA), and UV spectra. the types of drug release in this study are controlled release (CR) and the percentage release rate of TAC from the substrates of Layer Zinc Hydroxide (LZH), chitosan polymer (CHIT) and layer zinc hydroxide modified with chitosan polymer (LZH-CHIT), was observed as 59%, 32%, 20%, respectively. SEM diffraction patterns show the layered structures that can be found from their diffraction patter below than 10 degrees. The release patterns and characteristics of TAC from LZH, chitosan and LZH-chitosan were studied and shown the maximum amounts and smooth shapes near 400 min. TG% shows four weight losses80, 90, 40 and 55%, respectively, and thermal stability was demonstrated by TGA/DTG analyses
. EDS and thermal studies such as DTA, TGA, DSC were done on these materials. It was concluded that this biocompatible, hydrotalcite-like compound is an excellent host material for encapsulating triamcinolone and can serve as an effective delivery vehicle for controlled release.
