عنوان انگلیسی Association between Hypertension with and without Left Ventricular Hypertrophy and the Expression of a Panel of microRNAs in an Iranian Population
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Introduction: Considering the role of micro-RNAs in hypertension (HTN), the present study was conducted to investigate the expression of a selected micro-RNA panel among the hypertensive individuals with and without left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) compared with the controls in an Iranian population. Methods: A cross-sectional study with case-control sampling was conducted. The study groups were control, hypertension and hypertension plus LVH. Based on literature review, a panel of micro-RNAs including Mir-1, Mir-21, Mir-29a, Mir-29b, Mir-133, Mir-155, Mir-221 and Mir-222 were selected and studied by real-time PCR. General linear model was used for gene expression study. Results: A total of 100 samples were studied. Mir-29a and Mir-133 were used for calculation endogenous control. Mir-29b and Mir-221 did not show any association with the groups of study (P >0.2). Mir-1 showed down-regulation in both case groups (P <0.05); but this down-regulation did not remain significant after adjusting the effects of the potential confounders (P: 0.05 – 0.2). Mir-21 showed down-regulation in HTN+LVH group (P <0.05). Years of hypertension diagnosis was associated with up-regulation of Mir-155 and Mir-222. The strongest association was for Mir-222 that the groups of study could explain 25.7% of its variation (the largest R2 among the models). Conclusion: Hypertension without LVH might be associated with down-regulation of Mir-1 and Mir-155, and up-regulation of Mir-222. Hypertension along with LVH might be associated with down-regulation of Mir-1 and Mir-21, and up-regulation of Mir-222. Increasing years of experiencing hypertension was correlated with up-regulation of Mir-155 and Mir-222. The largest effect size was for Mir-222.
