Structural Model of Job Stress Based on Psychological Safety with Self-Control as a Mediator among Flight Attendants
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله
Background
&
Aims:
Occupational stress significantly impacts the performance of flight attendants. The present study aimed to present a structural model to explain job stress based on psychological safety, with the mediation of self-control among flight attendants.
Materials and Methods:
The research method employed was correlational, utilizing structural equation modeling. The statistical population included all flight attendants of Iran Air and Zagros Airlines in 2024. A sample of 152 individuals was selected through convenience sampling. For data collection, Cohen et al.'s Job Stress Scale (1964), Edmondson's Psychological Safety Questionnaire (1999), and Tangney et al.'s Self-Control Questionnaire (2004) were employed. The data were analyzed using SPSS (version 24) software, AMOS (version 23) software, and the structural equation modeling method.
Results:
The path analysis results indicated that psychological safety (
β
=-0.464) had a significant effect on flight attendants' job stress. The results related to the bootstrap percentile test indicated that psychological safety (
β
=-0.244; P=0.047) has an indirect effect on job stress through the mediation of self-control. Furthermore, gender did not play a significant moderating role in the relationship between psychological safety and occupational stress via self-control (P>0.05).
Conclusion:
These findings emphasize the necessity of adopting two parallel strategies: individual-centered interventions to strengthen self-control in order to improve the effects of psychological safety, and structural organizational measures to modify workload distribution and improve environmental conditions. Such a comprehensive approach can simultaneously influence both individual and organizational factors affecting flight attendants' job stress.
