عنوان انگلیسی P-38: Vitamin D Deficiency in Women Attending to Rheumatology Clinic: Relation with Age
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Objective: Vitamin D deficiency may influence on postmenopausal bone mass through affection of peak bone mass(PBM) attainment during adolescence. Deficiency of vitamin D is associated with several skeletal and nonskeletal complications. There is a gap in the existing literature pertaining to vitamin D levels across the life-stages. The present study was performed to determine the status of serum vitamin D level in women presenting to outpatient clinic according to age. Materials and Methods: Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OHD) was measured in 883 women (median age 50 years) by ELISA method and levels< 20ng/ml and between < 30 and>/=20 ng/ml were considered as deficient and insufficient levels respectively.Serum levels and proportion of 25-OHD deficiency were compared between groups according to decades of age as well as between women aged < or =/> 50 years old using Mann-Whitney,chi square tests. Spearman's tests was applied for correlation. Results: Proportions of deficiency and insufficiency were 52.5% and 17.7% respectively. Serum 25- OHD< 10 ng/ml observed in 25%.The levels of serum 25-OHD and proportion of deficiency were significantly different across various decades of age (P=0.0001 for both). Mean 25-OHD levels positively and proportion of deficiency negatively correlated with age (r=0.30, p=0.0001). In women aged < 50 years mean serum 25-OHD was lower and proportion of deficiency was higher compared with women aged > or =50 years (P=0.001 for both). Conclusion: These findings indicate high prevalence rate of serum 25-OHD deficiency in women particularly young women. Concerning the contributive role of vitamin D in PBM acquisition during adolescence period, this study suggest that identification of high risk women and their treatment may prevent vitamin D association skeletal and nonskeletal complications
