چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Objective: Mucins are high molecular weight glycoproteins that can form a mucus gel layer and protect the underlying epithelium in the gastrointestinal tract. In peptic ulcer, the percentage of multimeric mucin in the mucus layer falls, indicative of a weaker and less stable mucus gel. Muc6 is one of mucins that are expressed in the stomach and duodenum. Materials and Method: In this study, influence of Muc6 promoter polymorphism on susceptibility to peptic ulcer disease, was evaluated. 50 peptic ulcer patients and 50 healthy controls were screened for the presence of polymorphism using PCR followed by sequencing. Results: The genotype Frequencies of the control subjects did not show significant deviation from Hardy- Weinberg equilibrium (X2: 1.92, df=1, p>0.05). In the dominant effect of the T allele (comparison between TT+TG vs. GG), TT+TG genotypes significantly increased the risk of peptic ulcer (OR=3.3 , p=0.01). Conclusion: It is concluded that T allele may act as a dominant allele and increase the peptic ulcer risk.
