چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Objective: Cigarette smoking is considered as an important environmental risk factor for the initiation and progression of periodontal disease. To objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of smoking on to clinical parameters and the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) contents of Th1 and Th2 cytokines including IFN- γ in patients with generalized moderate periodontitis. Materials and Methods: This analytical study was performed on 60 male patients with generalized moderate periodontitis, in the age range 20-60 years old, consist of 30 smokers and 30 non-smokers. After recording our concerned clinical parameters, GCF sample were collected by means of paper points, from four teeth with 4mm or more probing depth per patient, selected in four quadrants. Then cytokines levels were determined by using ELISA. Results: In smokers and non-smokers, there were no significant differences with regard to IFN- γ and IL- 10 levels in GCF. In addition, significant difference in plaque Index and bleeding index was not observed. Conclusion: The present study did not reveal any difference between concerned parameters in smokers and non-smokers.
