چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Objective: Walnut leaves (Juglans Regia) are used for the treatment of diabetes in Iranian traditional medicine and some scientific documentation supports its antidiabetic action but there isn’t any investigation about flower of this plant that some people consume it for lowering blood sugar. This study designed to evaluate the antidiabetic effect of ethanolic walnut flower extract. Hypoglycemic effects and hepatic glucokinase activity of this extract on streptozocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats were studied. Materials and Methods: Forty-two male Wistar rats were divided into six groups: nondiabetic rats, STZ-induced diabetic rats without treatment, STZ-induced diabetic rats treated with ethanolic extracts of Juglans regia flower at different doses (200, 400, 600 and 800 mg/kg ethanolic extract of Juglans Regia flower was fed by gavage tube to healthy and streptozocin-induced diabetic rats for 10 days. Results: In diabetic animals, the ethanolic extract of Juglans Regia flower (600 & 800 mg/kg) caused a significant reduction in the level of serum glucose. The glucokinase activity was significantly elevated (p < 0.01) in diabetic animals treated with the extract. Conclusion: Our data show the ethanolic extract from flower of Juglans Regia contains components that are beneficial in the treatment of streptozocin-induced diabetes.
