چکیده انگلیسی مقاله The completion of human genome sequencing in 2003 and identification of more than twenty-five thousand genes coding for variety of proteins necessary to perform all biological functions in the human body has raised serious ethical issues. This new genomics knowledge is being applied in the field of reproductive biotechnology around the world allowing diagnosis and selection of human embryos at early stages before and after implantations. Application of biotechnologies in the areas of stem cells, cloning, gene therapy, genetic manipulation, gene selection, sex selection and pre-implantation diagnosis has raised very serious ethical issues at the levels of individual, society and world community. Fortunately in the past decade many countries and major world regulatory bodies have adopted laws allowing or prohibiting the use of biotechnologies in reproductive medical practices. These world organizations include: The United Nations, The thirty member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), The 47-member council of Europe, The 27-member European ::union::, The African ::union:: and The G-8 countries. Since reproductive biotechnologies are being used in many countries at the present time, it is hoped that appropriate actions are taken by respective governments to consider the ethical issues involved and regulate reproductive biotechnologies and related technologies in order to protect the human rights and human dignity of their citizens.
