O-11: The Clinical Evaluation of Platelet-Rich Plasma on Oral Mucosal Wound Healing
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله
Objective: One of the major free gingival graft's complications is the remaining exposed large wound in the donor site that heals slowly and painfully. Recently more rapid healing with less complication in the donor site has been considered and Growth Factors are tissue regeneration pioneers in this field. Platelet-Rich plasma is one of the blood elements which is a huge source of Growth Factors and its properties suggest its usefulness in wound healing. The goal of this study is to determine the effect of PRP on wound healing. Materials and Methods: This RCT split-mouth study assessed 10 patients which needed bilateral free gingival grafts. To have uniform wounds Mucotom was used. Randomly one site received routine surgical procedure and PRP and the other site without PRP. Wounds were assessed on days 2, 4, 7,10,14,60 after surgery. Wound closure, Landry healing scale, Manchester scar scale and patients’ pain and tissue thickness were evaluated. Paired t test and repeated measurements were used for data analyzing. This study is registered in IRCT.ir database (Irct138812093451n1). Results: Wound closure assessments based on photographs showed sooner mean complete closure and better Landry healing and Manchester scar scales in PRP used group. In addition, based on Visual Analogue Scale, patients showed lower values in all visits. All these differences between case and control groups were statistically significant (p< 0.05). There was no statistically significant differences in tissue thickness between groups (p=0.158). Conclusion: This study showed application of PRP make wounds heal faster and patients feel more comfortable during the healing phase.
