چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Background: Biorotox® is an invented green biologic rodenticide. The present study was designed to determine whether this toxin could cause infertility in male rats. Materials and methods: Sixteen Sprague-Dawley adult male rats were randomly divided into control and treatment groups. Treatment group was received diets containing Biorotox ® for 35 days. Control group was given standard rat food. Weight of body and volume of testis were measured. Furthermore, epididymal semen samples were collected and incubated for 45 min at 37 °C in 1 mL of PBS, to evaluate sperm counts, motility and viability. Data of indices were evaluated using the independent sample t test. P< 0.05 was selected significant. Results: In the sperm quality evaluation, mean and SE of sperm motility in the treatment rats (66.3 ± 4.9%) was lower than that of control group (22.5 ± 3.6%, P=0.001). However, there was no significant different in the whole body weight (342.1 ± 12.5 vs. 316.6 ± 10.9 g), testes volume (1.6 ± 0.05 vs. 1.5 ± 0.04 ml), sperm concentration (2.8 ± 0.4 vs. 1.9 ± 0.3 ×106/ml) and viability (44.9 ± 11.1 vs. 28.6 ± 7.0 %) between control and treatment groups, respectively (P>0.05). Conclusion: Biorotox® in the rat diet decreased motility of spermatozoa which may have an adverse effect on rat reproduction. And it could be an efficient product for control the population of these rodents.
