چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Children and adolescents are the largest and most permanent television audiences, while a significant proportion of television programs are made for adults. These programs may be not suitable for understanding and life experience of children and adolescents, and probably are harmful to their mental, emotional, moral and physical development. To protect children from inappropriate or unfavorable TV content, a TV content rating system has been established in most countries by adopting a theoretical and practical approach, based on the social responsibility theory. This study aims to determine the theoretical basics and similarities and differences of TV rating systems in Islamic and Western countries by documentary method. So regulations, and legislative, enforcement, monitoring and control processes of these systems studied. The study shows that all age category systems are based on law and comprehensive and clear guidelines, under the supervision of a media regulatory body (which is responsible for legislative, executive, and judicial duties). The main distinctions are their content prohibitions and restrictions related to the media normative theory and normative system of each country, including offensive language, nudity, adult subjects, sex, sexual references, crime, violence, and social ills that determines how to define and rate content according to age system.
