چکیده فارسی مقاله Nella letteratura italiana degli ultimi decenni lo scrittore Andrea Camilleri rappresenta un caso raro di successo editoriale e di pubblico, con centinaia di migliaia di copie vendute, traduzioni in molte lingue, riconoscimenti e convegni in suo onore. Uno dei suoi titoli più noti è il romanzo storico Il Birraio di Preston. Lo scrittore è diventato famoso presso il grande pubblico inizialmente per la serie di romanzi polizieschi che hanno per protagonista il commissario Montalbano. I lettori hanno scoperto i suoi romanzi storici in un secondo momento, sebbene questo filone preceda cronologicamente quello di Montalbano. Non dobbiamo, però, pensare che siano una lettura meno avvincente di quelli polizieschi. Camilleri è uno scrittore che sa catturare il lettore e tenerne desta l'attenzione fino all'ultima pagina. Non poca importanza ha qui il vasto sapere tecnico acquisito lavorando per molti anni per il teatro, la radio e la televisione, dove ha avuto a che fare con testi di diverso genere e ha accumulato una notevole esperienza di strategie narrative. Il Birraio di Preston si colloca a un punto di svolta della sua carriera di romanziere, sia per quanto riguarda lo sperimentalismo linguistico e narrativo, che il riconoscimento del pubblico.

چکیده انگلیسی مقاله In contemporary Italian literature Andrea Camilleri's career as a writer represents a successful story: in a couple of decades he has sold hundreds of thousands copies, has been translated into many languages, has won several awards, his books have been object of workshops. One of his best known works is Il birraio di Preston, a historical novel. At first Camilleri has won public success as the author of detective stories, with the police commissioner Montalbano as the main hero. At a later stage readers have started to appreciate his historical novels too, though they chronologically precede the Montalbano series. However, his historical novels are not less engaging than his detective stories. Camilleri, indeed, knows how to keep the reader's attention alive to the very last page, regardless of genres. This is partly due to the know-how gained during his longtime work for the theatre, the radio and the television, where he has acquired a remarkable experience in dealing with different texts and narrative strategies. Il birraio di Preston finds itself at a turning point in the writer's career as regards his linguistic and narrative experimentalism, as well as the reader's attention
