عنوان فارسی بررسی روابط بومیان و نخستین فرنگیان در خلیج فارس
چکیده فارسی مقاله خلیج فارس از گذشته‌های بسیار دور تاکنون، به سبب شبکه‌ای درهم تنیده از پیوندهای اقتصادی و اجتماعی، همواره ویژگی خاصی داشته است. بررسی پیشینه روابط ساکنان این منطقه با فرنگیان، افزون بر آنکه بخش قابل توجهی از تاریخ و فرهنگ این آبراه مهم را روشن می‌کند، می‌تواند در تنظیم مناسبات ایرانیان با همسایگان و دیگر ملت‌ها و کشورهای جهان سخت مؤثر باشد. بر این اساس، مقاله حاضر تلاش دارد با تکیه بر اسناد و منابع و نیز روش توصیفی ـ تحلیلی به این پرسش‌ها پاسخ دهد: 1. آشنایی بومیان خلیج فارس با فرنگیان از چه دوره‌ای آغاز شد؟ 2. تعامل میان بومیان و فرنگیان از کدام منافع مشترک سرچشمه می‌گرفت؟ 3. چه عواملی موجب تضاد و برخورد میان بومیان و فرنگیان شد؟ خاطر نشان می‌شود که پیش از ورود پرتغالی‌ها به عرصۀ تجاری خلیج فارس، همزیستی مسالمت‌آمیزی میان عوامل تجاری و بومیان منطقه جریان داشت، اما این وضعیت به سبب سیاست‌های خشونت‌آمیز و انحصار‌‌طلبانۀ تازه‌واردان مختل شد.

عنوان انگلیسی A Study of Relations between Persian Gulf Natives and the First Europeans
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله From long time ago the Persian Gulf has maintained a special position due to its interlocking webs of economic and social relations. Studying the relations between the natives of this area with the Europeans will shed light on a significant part of the culture and history of Iran, and, moreover, could be quite effective in setting the agenda for this country's relations with its neighbors and other nations. The present article seeks to draw upon historical documents and sources and utilize descriptive-analytical method to find answers to the following questions: 1-   When were the first encounters with the Persian Gulf native inhabitants? 2-   What were the interests underlying the natives' interactions with the Europeans? 3-   What factors contributed to later conflict and clash between the natives and the Europeans? It is worth noting that before the Portuguese intrusion into the region and their encroachment upon the commercial landscape of the Persian Gulf Region, merchants and tradesmen in the region co-existed peacefully; a trend which was disrupted by the violent and monopolizing policies of the freshly arrived intruders.
