عنوان انگلیسی The Effect of Morphine on the Incidence of Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting after Strabismus Surgery with Propofol
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Introduction: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) are one of the common side effects occurring after strabismus surgery. Given the fact that in our treatment centers Morphine is used a lot and we have few alternative analgesics in our country the aim of this study was to compare the incidence of nausea and vomiting after strabismus surgery in the patients receiving morphine as an analgesic drug with the control group. Methods in this double-blind, randomized, clinical trial, 126 patients who were candidates for strabismus surgery and without restriction of age and sex were randomly assigned to receive morphine and control group. The incidence of PONV in patients within 24 hours after the surgery was compared. Results: During 24 hours after strabismus surgery, in morphine group 29 patients had nausea (46%) and 27 (42.9%) were nauseous in the control group. In the morphine group, 11 patients had vomiting (17.5%); In the control group, 9 patients experienced vomiting (14.3%) and there was no significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.85 and p = 0.80 respectively). Conclusion: According to the results of this study, morphine does not increase PONV after strabismus surgery Keywords : morphine, postoperative nausea and vomiting, strabismus.
