عنوان انگلیسی Oral Quercetin Supplementation Enhances Adiponectin Receptor Transcript Expression in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Patients: A Randomized Placebo-Controlled Double-Blind Clinical Trial
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Objective: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), as an ovarian-pituitary axis androgen disorder, is the common endocrine chaos in women. Obesity-induced androgenesis and imbalance of adipokine secretion may lead to some metabolic features of PCOS. The beneficial effects of the polyphenolic components such as quercetin have been reported, but the molecular mechanisms are not entirely understood. In the present study, we investigated the effect of quercetin supplementation on adiponectin receptors mRNA expression in PBMC of PCOS patients. Materials and methods: Eighty-four PCOS subjects randomly assigned to two groups; the treatment group received 1 gr quercetin (two 500 mg capsules) daily for 12 weeks, and the control group received placebo. To show the effect of quercetin supplementation on PCOS patients in addition to biochemical and anthropometric assessment, adipoR1 and AdipoR2 mRNA expression and AMPK level determined by real-time PCR and ELISA assay respectively. Results: Oral quercetin supplementation significantly induces AdipoR1, AdipoR2 mRNA expression respectively 1.32 and 1.46 fold (p< 0.01). Also, the data show that quercetin supplementation enhances AMPK level about 12.3% versus control group p< 0.05. Conclusion: Oral quercetin supplementation improves metabolic features of PCOS patients by induction of adiponectin receptor mRNA expression and AMPK protein levels.
