عنوان انگلیسی Inadvertent Subcutaneous Injection of Atracurium for Circumcision: A case report and review of literature
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله Introduction: Neuromuscular blocking agents are used for skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation. Accidental injection of these agents is a medical error which can lead to minor sequel or devastating complications. Herein we reported an inadvertent subcutaneous injection of atracurium for circumcision as a case report and also performed a brief review on international databases related to the reported case. Cased Presentation: A 2-month-old infant was scheduled for circumcision under local anesthesia, 5 minutes after subcutaneous injection of Atracurium instead of Lidocaine for local anesthesia, Patient developed Respiratory apnea, cyanosis, muscle relaxation, and bradycardia. Then the patient was intubated and to receive supportive care transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and kept under follow up. After taking supportive and therapeutic cares, there is no complication. The patient after complete recovery was discharged without any problems. Conclusion: Despite all efforts to prevent the errors, there are still some such errors. Report these cases, highlights the importance of early diagnosis of errors, correct medical interventions, accurate management of conditions for control and elimination of symptoms and complications.
