عنوان انگلیسی Evaluating The Antifertility Potentials of 3-Monochloropropane-1, 2-diol (Alpha-Chlorohydrin) and Testosterone in Adult Male Wild Nile Grass Rats (Arvicanthis niloticus) for rodent control
چکیده انگلیسی مقاله The Nile grass rat (Arvicanthis niloticus) is one of the most widespread of the Rodentia and is considered a serious vertebrate pest in Egypt. It caused serious economic losses to cultivated crops and stored foodstuffs. The present work aims to evaluate the potential antifertility effects of alpha-chlorohydrin (ACH) and exogenous testosterone for controlling this pest. ACH and exogenous testosterone were administered orally, at a dose of 70 mg/kg for 5 days and 25 mg/kg for 3 times/week for 3 weeks, respectively. Antifertility effects were studied after twenty-four hours of exposure. The findings showed that ACH and exogenous testosterone significantly reduced the serum ATPase, Esterase, and G3PDH activities as well as hormonal fertility testosterone, LH, and FSH levels, and a minor increase in ASAT, ALAT, GGT, ALP activities, urea, uric acid, and creatinine levels. Additionally, there was a noticeable reduced in the testis and epididymis oxidative status; the testis and epididymis CAT, SOD, and GSH were dramatically inhabited, and the levels of MDA and NO were increased. Also, both compounds decreased the weight of reproductive organs, motility, and sperm count,  as well as several histological alterations in the epididymis and testis were also observed. In treated male rats, the reduction in expression of immunohistochemical markers of androgen receptor protein and Wilm’s tumor nuclear protein 1. These results indicate that ACH and testosterone have induced infertility in males of the Nile rats. Therefore, both compounds are recommended for application in integrated pest management programs for controlling this vertebrate severe pest.
